XLIF Testimonial
PATIENT: JUDITH HANEY
Q: Prior to surgery, how did you back pain affect your personal and professional life?
A: At it’s most extreme, the only thing I could do was lay down. I could not stand, walk or sit for any length of time. I, of course, could not work because, on the job, I stood for my whole shift except for breaks and lunch.
Q: How would you rate your level of pain on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being high intensity pain?)
A: There was never a point in time after my first appointment regarding this problem that I did not have any pain. It was a daily occurrence, 24/7, and ranged from about a 4 up to 10 (and beyond in my opinion, sometimes excruciating).
Q: What methods of treatment did you undergo pre-surgery?
A: My primary physician had an x-ray done on 4/17/06, and then referred me for physical therapy. I did 11 sessions of physical therapy from 7/19 thru 8/23 and saw little or no improvement after each session. (During this time I also, on my own, had two chiropractic treatments with no improvement.) On 8/2 and again on 8/17, my primary physician prescribed Medrol. There was minimal, but not long-lasting improvement. I was then referred to Dr. Massoudi and, as they say, “the rest is history”.
Q: What made you choose to have an XLIF procedure?
A: I had been in pain for so long and had done everything my primary physician had told me to do without relief. Dr.Massoudi, after reviewing my tests, etc., was very confident that this would be the solution. I had heard very positive things about Dr. Massoudi, not only from professionals but from personal friends who had been under his care. I also researched the procedure on the internet. I felt comfortable going ahead with the procedure.
Q: How soon were you walking and climbing stairs after your operation?
A: Within a week. My home is two stories and my bedroom is on the second floor. After just a couple of days home, I was able to navigate the stairs and fix my own meals… without pain. I was back to work on March 19, 2007, with no restrictions.
Q: How does your condition compare today to before surgery?
A: Today, I’m able to do all the things I couldn’t before the surgery, and more. The pain I was experiencing has not resurfaced. I’ve since retired (in May, 2007) and have a weekly program of exercise for the purpose of flexibility and strengthening. I am “good to go”.
